| The design technology behind Shape Ups changes the way you walk. As we move through our lives, we typically walk on hard surfaces, which places stress on our knee joints and lower back. People who are required to stand for their jobs feel the impact on their bodies the most, and don’t gain the benefits that come with all that activity. The goal with Shape Ups was to simulate walking on soft ground. SKECHERS has turned hard surfaces into comfortable ground through revolutionary technology designed into the framework of the shoe. The core of this technology is in the dynamic rolling bottom, the soft foam insert under the heel, and the dual-density midsole. These three elements work together to give you the feeling of walking on sand or luxurious pile carpet--regardless of the actual surface. Walking on softer, uneven surfaces forces you to engage muscles not normally used when walking on hard ground. Not only does this strengthen your muscles, but it also increases blood flow and reduces the impact on your joints and lower back. Designed to improve your life by changing the way you walk, Shape Ups feature a unique soft kinetic wedge insert and dynamic rolling bottom to simulate walking barefoot on a giving surface that gives such as sand. With the comfort of Shape Ups, you will feel your heel sink to the ground as you step, roll forward as your weight shifts to its center, and push off with your toes. This movement will result in stronger leg, buttock, back and abdominal muscles as you stabilize your steps. Barefoot walking simulation on soft ground -
The heel sinks comfortably into the soft ground as you step -
You naturally roll forward as your weight shifts to the center and your balance is centered -
Easily push off with your toe pads Due to this unconventional manner of walking, we suggest you moderate your walking routine in Shape Ups for the first week or two (25 to 45 minutes per day), depending on your level of fitness. As you continue to wear your Shape Ups, your body will adjust to this new method of walking. You will find it easy and comfortable while still enjoying the strengthening and cardiovascular benefits. Get in the Routine 1. Kick Back: Stand upright and place feet parallel and hip distance apart, balance centered. Roll your weight onto the back of the soft foam heel – hold for a count of five and then back to the center. Do not lock knees or tip backward. Stretches calf and hamstrings. Repeat 5 to 10 times. 2. Rock and Roll: Stand upright and place feet parallel and hip distance apart, balance centered. Roll your weight forward so you are balancing on the underside of your toes – hold for a count of two, then slowly rock back to the soft heel – hold for a count of two, and then back to your center of balance. Do not lock knees or tip backward. Stretches calf and hamstrings, warms up Achilles and ankles. Repeat 5 to 10 times. 3. Roll and Rock and Roll: Follow the Rock and Roll stretch, but alternate feet so one is rolling to the toes and one is rocking back. Repeat 5 to 6 times. 4. The Lean: Place your hands on a wall, parallel and slightly above your head. With one leg in front of the other and your arms forward, press with your palms as if you were leaning on the wall. Keep your back leg straight and your front foot on the floor, then bend the front leg and lean forward by moving your hips toward the wall. Hold for a count of five, then repeat on the other side. Stretches calf and Achilles. Repeat 5 to 6 times. What's Inside Shape Ups? -

| I got a pair of a different brand very much like the Shape-ups at Christmas. Everyone complimented me on my "neat looking" shoes and I think maybe my DH got a little jealous. Hee hee! But I kept telling him and everyone else, I don't care what they looked like, they were like walking on clouds! I loved my shoes and recommended them to everyone. However, my husband couldn't take me up on my recommendation because the brand I bought only carried women's shoes/sizes. The Skechers so far is the only shoes that carry the men's styles and sizes without breaking the bank. Granted, they are a little pricey, but I think they have been well worth it because my husband is absolutely in love with the pair he just received (he got the white and navy ones). The extra height is an added bonus as well. They make him about 2 inches taller and he's totally digging that. Ha! He will be attending a conference later this month where he has to walk around most of the day, so that will be well worth the price if it can save his feet and back. So far he has no complaints and has walked around quite a lot to get used to them (can you say Sam's Club and Wal-mart browsing!) and says he actually feels invigorated after walking in them and his posture is better!. That is a thumbs-up in my book! |
Love it, love it, love it!

| I've been using my Shape Ups for 3+ months now, and I love these shoes. I had to give up running because of knee pain, and walking every day wasn't giving me the weight loss I enjoyed before, so I decided to give the Shape Ups a try to increase the challenge. Learning to walk in them took a little work, but the instructional DVD really helped. Since I switched to walking in these shoes, I get a real workout in my calves, hams, and glutes (and abs, if I walk for an hour+.) I really love how my calves are looking now, I'm getting better definition in them than when I was running every day. I'm losing weight a lot faster than walking in tennis shoes, and my average heart rate gets a lot higher. Additionally, my knee and back pain have been dramatically reduced, as the Shape Ups force your muscles to really do the work in supporting you, rather than the impact of every step going straight up your shin, and thereby transmitted to your knee. The shoes force good posture (but not uncomfortably), really benefiting my back. I resent days where I have to wear any other shoes, because these make me feel so good! As far as walking and "every day" shoes go, I think I'll keep buying these until I'm in the ground. |

I bought my Skecher Shape Ups in early February of this year. I am a 66 year-old male. I had been walking 3 miles per day, but my knees and hips often hurt during and after my walk. The first time I wore the Shape Ups, my knees and hips did not hurt. It is now early May, and they still don't hurt during or after my walks. I have increased my distance to 4 miles per day, and I have cut 1-2 minutes per mile off my time (15-16 minutes per mile down to 14-15 minutes per mile).
I ride a recumbent bicycle 70 miles per week and had noticed some painful calluses on the bottom of my feet caused by the pedals. Because of the thickness of the Shape Up soles, I no longer have the calluses.
In March I bought a second pair so I would have one pair for workouts and a second pair for everyday.

These shoes take a little getting time to become accustomed to. At first you feel as if you are walking on spoonge balls, but you quickly learn to walk in them and they become comfortable and useful.
They will change how you walk, you step will become longer and you will start to feel a spring in your step.
I like them and believe they will make a difference in my overall health. |

| The trainers are extremely comfortable. If you walk and hold your posture as instructed you definitely do feel the workout, particularly in your calves and hamstrings. They give you the feeling (and the actuality) of some extra height, which is enhanced by your automatically improving your posture as you go. It's a psychological thing - they somehow make you correct slouch, extend your spine and hold your core muscles in tight as you walk. The balance training aspect of the trainers' usage is less easy to measure, but everything feels like it's being improved - little by little. My "shattered" soccer knees have rarely felt more impact-protected. I have had numerous cartilege operations, have a torn irreparable anterior cruciate ligament and some arthritis in those joints. I attend gym and gym classes regularly and am pretty fit aerobically etc. These trainers definitely help me to protect my knees and keep active in the gym. Good value for money, reasonably good in the styling, comfortable and effective. |
